The Chameleons

Script of the Bridge (1983)

Lost post-punk classic. Some people call it “OK Computer of the 80s”. Ethereal, dreamy, atmospheric, epic, stylistically somewhere between Echo & the Bunnymen and The Smiths, a huge influence on the shoegaze scene that emerged in the early 90s. Not many people have heard it, but nearly everyone who has seems to think it's the best album ever made :)

A description like that sells it pretty hard.

I'll be back with my thoughts once I hear it.

fantastic album! white lies' recent release to lose my life is a good companion for this album.

The Chams as they're known to their legions of fans here in UK did two other albums really worth checking out if you like this, 'What does anything mean basically' and 'Strange Times' plus a Peel sessions release plus odds and ends and there a couple of really good soundboard bootlegs out there as well. Original lineup reformed in late 90 or noughtys for a basic repro of 80 'hits' also available from tour of US and Canada, referred to as Chameleons UK.There are even some DVDs of Manchester/ London shows from early 80s. Its all there on Wiki. Enjoy!

I'm proud to say I bought this on vinyl the year it came out! Great share!! The Radiohead comparison hadn't occured to me but you're RIGHT!

I'm skeptical, but only because I don't remember this one and because I've been floored lately by how good Strange Times still sounds after all these years. I'll soon find out! Thank you!

Is it the best album ever made? Close how about third.
